To the Head Coach and Collegiate Recruiting Staff,
Subject: Strong Recommendation for Malanya Gaines (Class of 2027) – Sprint & Relay Specialist
It is my pleasure to offer an unreserved recommendation for Malanya Gaines. I have followed her
athletic development for nearly a decade, beginning with her foundational training years (2015–2018),
and can confidently state that she possesses the physical tools, mental toughness, and competitive
maturity required at the collegiate level.
Malanya excels in speed and speed-endurance events, but her true standout trait is her reliability and
technical precision in relay competition. She has proven herself as a versatile and clutch relay
contributor across the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m, consistently delivering under pressure
with flawless baton handling and tactical awareness. Her current personal bests highlight her
impressive versatility
800m: 2:18:96 (2026 MileSplit)
Malanya’s technical development has been shaped by a respected coaching lineage, including
foundational years with me, then on to Brute Force Track Club under Sean Ingram, who was also her
high school coach for a stint at Eaglecrest High School, and continued growth with Wayne Vaden at
Angel Flight Track Club. Her exposure to high-level training methodologies has instilled in her a
profound work ethic, exceptional coachability, and the resilience to thrive through rigorous collegiate
training cycles.
Beyond athletics, Malanya is a disciplined, well-rounded young woman. Her commitment to
community service—feeding the homeless and donating clothing—alongside her active involvement
with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), reflects strong leadership, empathy, and time
management. She balances these responsibilities with clear academic ambition, having set her sights on
becoming a forensic psychologist. This goal underscores her dedication to both intellectual growth and
structured self-improvement, qualities that translate directly to success in a university setting.
Malanya approaches every workout and competition with the focus of a scholar and the intensity of a
competitor. I recommend her without hesitation for any program seeking a dynamic sprinter, a reliable
relay contributor, and a character-driven teammate who will elevate your culture from day one.
Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss her potential further. I am happy to provide additional
details or support during her recruitment process.
200m: 25.39 (2025)

To Whom It May Concern,
It is my pleasure to recommend Malanya Gaines as she takes the next step in both her academic and athletic career. I have had the opportunity to watch Malanya grow throughout her years in track and field, and it has been rewarding to see the person and athlete she has become.
One of the first things that stands out about Malanya is her work ethic. She is determined, focused, and never afraid to put in the work to reach her goals. Whether it’s at practice, in competition, or facing challenges outside of athletics, she gives her best effort and continues to push herself to improve. She doesn’t look for shortcuts, and she has earned every success through dedication and perseverance.
Malanya is also a strong student who understands that success in the classroom is just as important as success on the track. She is responsible, dependable, and has shown that she can balance the demands of academics and athletics while staying committed to both.
Just as important, Malanya is an outstanding teammate. She is supportive of those around her, leads by example, and is someone her teammates respect and enjoy being around. She celebrates the success of others, encourages people when they need it most, and always represents herself, her team, and her school with class.
I am confident Malanya will be a great addition to any college athletic program. She has the character, determination, and maturity to succeed wherever she goes, and I know she will continue to work hard and make those around her better.
I recommend Malanya without hesitation and wish her nothing but success as she begins this exciting new chapter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Jaylynn Wilson
Student-Athlete Sacramento State
To whom it may concern,
It is my pleasure to write this personal letter of recommendation for Malanya Gaines.
I first met Malanya in 2017. At that time, I had first entered the competitive world of track and field, and I was beyond nervous for what was ahead of me. Malanya stepped up, taught me the warm-up drills, and made me feel like I belonged. That kind of kindness is who she is.
From 2018 through 2025, we were able to create hundreds of memories that will last a lifetime. We ran relays together, including 4x4s that I still treasure. We traveled all around the country; competed at state and nationals; and built a friendship grounded in real conversations, not just results. Before races, we’d check in and steady each other’s nerves. Even the days where we were so nervous to the point where we cried, I still remember Malanya pushing through and (typically) PRing in her races.
This bond wasn’t only apparent on the track. After practice, we’d FaceTime for hours and talk honestly about our struggles. She was someone I could lean on, and that mutual support made the toughest parts manageable. Most of the time, these things weren’t related to track. We’d lean on each other for support in school and regular old life struggles.
One thing that I always noticed about Malanya is her ability to persevere. One example of her resilience that I’d like to mention is her growth on the track, and more specifically the 800, is the fact that she didn’t always love the 800; despite that, she kept showing up and putting in the work until she owned it.
Malanya leads by example, brings humor when things feel heavy, and never quits. If I had three words to describe Malanya, I’d easily use funny, hardworking, and resilient.
I am proud to recommend her and even prouder to call her my friend.
Sincerely,
Jaylynn Wilson

To Whom it May Concern,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Malanya Gaines, a graduating senior at Eaglecrest High School in Aurora, Colorado. I have had the privilege of knowing Malanya for the past 3 years in my role as her track and field coach with Angel Flight Track Club in Denver. During this time, Malanya has consistently impressed me with her exceptional work ethic, leadership skills, sense of humor and unwavering dedication to her goals.
Malanya is a natural leader. She exemplifies this as a leader of our track and field team leading other student-athletes in practices, meets and team trips. Her ability to motivate and inspire her teammates is impressive and is a big part of the team’s success. She always fosters a positive and supportive environment, encouraging others to push themselves and achieve their personal bests, while maintaining a sense of humor.
Beyond her leadership roles, Malanya demonstrates a strong work ethic in all that she does. She consistently balances a demanding academic schedule with her extracurricular activities. This dedication extends to her athletic pursuits where she demonstrates her commitment to continuous improvement.
A couple of things that immediately stand out about Malanya are her coachability and her grit. She actively seeks constructive criticism and readily applies it to her work, both on and off the track. Letitia Nesby
Youth Pastor, Emmanuel Christian Center
To Whom It May Concern,
It is both an honor and a privilege to write this letter of recommendation for Malanya. As her Youth Pastor, I have had the joy of watching her grow over the past several years into an exceptional young woman of faith, integrity, and character. While I know I am not supposed to have favorites, I will admit that Malanya has always held a special place in my heart because of the remarkable example she sets for everyone around her.
Malanya is one of the kindest, sweetest, and most genuine young women I have ever had the privilege of mentoring. She loves God wholeheartedly, treasures her family, and pursues excellence in everything she does—especially in track and field. Her athletic accomplishments are impressive, but they are far surpassed by the quality of her character.
Throughout her time in our youth ministry, Malanya has consistently demonstrated servant leadership. She has volunteered countless times, never seeking recognition but always looking for ways to help wherever needed. Whether serving behind the scenes or stepping into leadership, she approaches every opportunity with humility, enthusiasm, and a team-first attitude.
One example that perfectly illustrates her willingness to serve is her participation on our youth praise dance team. I asked her to learn an entirely new routine in just one day because we needed additional help. Without hesitation, she said yes. She put aside her own schedule, learned the choreography quickly, and served with excellence simply because the team needed her.
Two moments stand out to me as powerful reflections of Malanya’s heart.
The first occurred during preparations for our Christmas program. A young teenage girl wanted to participate but was uncertain if there would be a place for her. Without being asked, Malanya advocated for that young lady and even offered to give up her own role so the other girl could be included. That selfless act spoke volumes about who she is. She naturally puts others before herself and genuinely celebrates the success of those around her.
The second example demonstrates her incredible dedication and commitment. Malanya had committed to attending our annual youth camp, but just two days beforehand she advanced in one of her track competitions, creating a scheduling conflict. Rather than simply choosing one commitment over the other, she worked relentlessly to find a way to honor both. She even considered taking a two-and-a-half-hour flight followed by a one-hour car ride just so she could attend at least part of youth camp after fulfilling her athletic commitment. Although the logistics ultimately made it impossible, what impacted me most was her determination. She wanted to be there—not because she had to, but because she valued her faith community and the opportunity to grow spiritually alongside her peers.
These are only two examples among many that testify to Malanya’s outstanding character. She is empathetic, compassionate, considerate, dependable, and remarkably mature. She is the type of young woman who naturally builds up those around her, encourages teammates, and willingly sacrifices her own comfort for the good of others.
Any university would be fortunate to have Malanya represent its athletic program. She embodies the qualities every coach hopes to recruit and every institution hopes to develop: integrity, discipline, humility, perseverance, servant leadership, and excellence. She will not only contribute on the track but will positively influence her teammates, coaches, and campus community through her character and leadership.
If you are looking for an all-around MVP—someone who is selfless, team-oriented, compassionate, driven, and committed to excellence both on and off the field—look no further than Malanya. I give her my highest recommendation without reservation and have every confidence that she will continue to accomplish great things while making a lasting impact on everyone she meets.
Should you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
